We work in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society to run our ‘Open Minds’ Group so both carers and the person they care for can come along together. The group meets on a Thursday afternoon twice a month. Carers can take a break and have a chat whilst the person they care for is supported to take part in their own activity next door.

Sheila has been volunteering at Swindon Carers Centre for 3 years. Sheila has a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience working with those with dementia. She volunteers in our ‘Open Minds’ group as a Dementia Support Group Volunteer.

Sheila helps by chatting with members of the group, making refreshments and generally being on hand to support our Groups and Activities Coordinators. When ask what do you like most about volunteering, Sheila told us “meeting new people and seeing them relax and enjoy their time together.”
