Our team makes Swindon Carers Centre a special place to work

We are an award-winning, passionate team who put unpaid carers at the heart of our work.

Our staff are our biggest asset and we want their working experience to be fulfilling and rewarding. We offer training opportunities and encourage our staff to develop their skills and expertise to benefit themselves, the unpaid carers we serve and partner organisations we work with.

We have a range of employee benefits including a Wellbeing Programme, hybrid and flexible working options, an emotional support line and Mental Health First Aiders. A number of our staff are also unpaid carers and we have in-house working carer representatives who can offer support and advice.

We proudly embrace a set of core values that shape our conduct and interactions. These values are Openness, Accountability, Integrity, Objectivity, Leadership, Honesty, and Selflessness. Our commitment to these principles drives our organisation forward, ensuring that we create a positive impact and serve our community with dedication and purpose.

Our commitment to high standards, transparency and accountability is recognised by those we work with and we are proud to achieve the Trusted Charity Level 2 mark and the Excellence for Carers award.

What our staff think about Swindon Carers Centre

We carry out an annual staff survey to evaluate what is working well and ask staff for their feedback on a range of issues to help us improve the working environment.

Here are the results from our 2023 survey where we asked our staff to rate the following areas out of a score of five.

Stuart Ilbury, Head of Service Delivery for the Adult and Older Carer Team at Swindon Carers Centre

Stuart Ilbury, Head of Service Delivery for the Adult and Older Carer Team

I’m responsible for the strategic leadership of the service we provide to adult and older carers, managing a team of 10 people. In addition, I’m a member of the Senior Leadership Team and I’m also Swindon Carers Centre’s Safeguarding Lead for Adults.

I joined Swindon Carers Centre in May 2015 as an Adult Carer Support Practitioner, carrying out Carer Conversations (assessments of carer’s needs). I developed my skills and built up my experience to take on more responsibility as a manager and now as head of the team.

I love working for an organisation that really puts our service users – the carers – first. We are all so passionate about making sure carers are aware of what they are entitled to, where to go to get information and to receive the appropriate support in a timely manner.

Everyone’s focus is doing the best for carers and that makes working here the best thing, and one of the reasons it is my second longest job since I left school in 1984.

Swindon Carers Centre also has a fantastic Wellbeing Programme, which really makes sure staff feel supported and looked after.

Claudia Oliveria, Young Carer Support Practitioner at Swindon Carers Centre

Claudia Oliveira, Young Carer Support Practitioner

I work in the Young Carers Team and carry out assessments of the needs of young carers. I also support young carers at the activities and groups we hold which enables them to have a break from their caring role – it’s so fulfilling to see young carers have a few hours of respite where they can have fun and be themselves.

I joined Swindon Carers Centre in 2021 and during my time here I have gained the knowledge and confidence to identify young carers in our community and the best way to support them. I have also undertaken various Safeguarding training, which has broadened my understanding and knowledge of this important area.

There are many reasons why I love working for Swindon Carers Centre; the main one being that the registered carers are at the centre of our work. There is so much passion for what we do and the services we deliver.

There are also many employee benefits, such as an established Wellbeing Programme that you are encouraged to take part in. Activities have included meditation, yoga and walking. A further employee benefit is that you have an additional day off for your birthday.

I would recommend SCC to anyone, if the career opportunity arises.
