Senior Captain’s day at Broome Manor Golf Club raises over £3,000 for young carers

Fundraisers at Broome Manor Golf Club held their Senior Captain’s Day in September and raised an amazing £3,000 for young carers!

After months of being unable to fundraise for charity, due to Covid-19, members of the golf club rallied round to organise donations, as well as a raffle and silent auction.

Captain Clive Belcher decided to raise money for young carers in Swindon after speaking to one of our fantastic volunteers Gary Vilter.

He said: “Last year I was playing an away game, and I got talking to Gary. He made me aware of Swindon Carers Centre and the Young Carers Team. To be honest it wasn’t something I was aware of until then, but once I’d spoken to him I knew I wanted to add my support.

“People aren’t always aware of what young carers do, so it’s making them more aware and hopefully helping young carers in Swindon a bit with some money for activities and breaks. I’ve had a lot of people coming back and saying what a great day it was.”

Several local businesses, including the Golf Pros at BMGC, donated items for use as competition prizes and the fundraising raffle. The Young Carers Team at Swindon Carers Centre would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the day.
