Do you support someone living with dementia?

Dementia Action Week starts on May 17th. Here at Swindon Carers Centre, we have been working in partnership with others to help raise awareness of support and services in Swindon.

Please read on, to hear more details from Heather, our Senior Groups & Activities Co-ordinator.

Dementia Awareness Week (May 17th to May 23rd)

There are a range of events taking place with ourselves, Swindon Borough Council, The Alzheimer’s Society, Home Instead, GWH and The Admiral Nurses.

Please click here for the full programme of events.

Dementia Friends Awareness Session

On April 12th, we hosted a Dementia Friends awareness session, for staff and carers. You might like to look at the following link for further information. Thank you to Kevin O’ Donoghue for delivering the session!

Dementia Peer Support Group

Pre-Covid we were pleased to offer our monthly group at a care home. Carers could meet with other carers, share information, and find support and friendship in one lounge while the person they care for would enjoy activities with trained, care workers in another lounge. We hope to be able to resume this soon! Meanwhile, we have been meeting virtually via Zoom.

Have you heard of the Herbert Protocol?

Do you worry that the person you care for may go missing? The Herbert Protocol aims to help family members, friends, care workers, Telecare providers, responders and the police by making sure the information needed to begin initial searches is easily at hand.

Follow this link for more information.
