How We Can Support You

Anyone can become an unpaid carer or require support at any point in their life because of a physical or mental health condition, a learning disability, or a drug or alcohol dependency.

At Swindon Carers Centre, we believe that supporting unpaid carers should be high on all our employers’ agendas and we can help your business with this.

Why does caring matter to your business?

The Carer’s Leave Act became law on the 6th of April 2024 meaning that employees of your organisation are entitled to one week’s unpaid leave per year if they are providing or arranging care for someone with a long-term care need.

Through this new act you might become more aware of those in your workplace who are also Unpaid Carers. Your employees could be juggling their paid work with their caring role and organisations will need to adapt to recognise and support staff who are also carers, making it possible for them to stay in work.

Caring for someone can heavily impact a person’s wellbeing. Along with the emotional toll, carers handle numerous tasks, including:

  • Managing medications
  • Coordinating medical appointments
  • Covering bills
  • Shopping
  • Providing personal care
  • Ensuring their loved ones are safe and well often to the detriment of their own social life and hobbies

Many carers are forced to leave their jobs, relying on minimal benefits that fall far below minimum wage for the countless hours they put in, often around the clock with little respite.

For those juggling work with caring responsibilities, stress can be overwhelming, and this can affect their mental and physical health.

With the number of carers in the UK expecting to grow as our population ages we wanted to let you know that any business in Swindon can signpost employees who are unpaid carers to Swindon Carers Centre to access our free and valuable information and support.

How we support Carers

We provide support for unpaid carers in Swindon, from children as young as five to adults caring for an ill, frail, or disabled family member, partner, or friend.

We believe carers should be valued and recognised for all they contribute to our society. Carers provide practical support and bring warmth, dignity, and independence to the most vulnerable in our communities.

We help carers manage the challenges they face, including loneliness, financial strain, and health issues, enabling them to maintain their own well-being whilst caring for others.
