Support after bereavement: Our PATH Group

When the time comes, if a carer lets us know when their caring role ends, due to bereavement, we can send a condolence card, a letter and ring them.

Carers are welcome to stay in touch with Swindon Carers Centre after bereavement. You can use our support line service for up to 6 months. You are also welcome to access our groups and activities, including the PATH Group, for up to 18 months. This group, specifically for bereaved carers, provides friendship and support , from others who ‘get’ how you might be feeling.

Thanks to a grant received from Wiltshire Community Fund, specifically for our PATH Group, we have been able to offer a tablet and internet access for up to one year to members who don’t have IT. This has helped reduce isolation and loneliness, enabling access to Zoom events during Covid-19 restrictions.

We hold a regular fortnightly meeting, plus some other events and trips. We are also able to help with counselling around bereavement if needed.

Due to the success of this group, we were delighted to be asked by The Carers Trust to help devise a toolkit that could be used nationwide for other carer centres to offer similar provision.

Also, due to the special friendships forged within the PATH Group, when members come to the end of their 18-month membership, they often agree to keep in touch with one another.

With the recent easing of lockdown a group of PATH members met outdoors, with masks, at Lydiard park for a chat and a cuppa from the takeaway café.
