To join the Emergency Card Scheme you must be registered with us. If you already registered, please contact us and we will arrange for a form to be sent to you.
As an unpaid carer, your role is vital, but sometimes unexpected situations can arise that prevent you from helping your cared for. Our emergency card scheme offers you peace of mind, knowing that a plan is in place to ensure your dependent continues to receive care even if you're unable to due to an emergency.
Available to all registered carers over 18, the Emergency Card Scheme is administered by Swindon Carers Centre in partnership with local councils and health boards. You develop a comprehensive plan, detailing the information about you and the person you care for. You can specify what needs to happen if an emergency is to prevent you from caring.
If the person you care for has complex needs or you lack an emergency contact, our administrators will help you develop a plan.
Your plan is securely stored with Swindon Borough Council, and you will receive a red card with a unique number linked to your plan. In an emergency, anyone who finds the card can call the number on it, provide your unique number, and the call handlers will implement your emergency plan.
Join a community that truly understands you. At Swindon Carers Centre, we host events shaped by your feedback, connect you with a supportive network of local unpaid carers, and amplify your voice through our influential carers forum. Your opinion matters - be part of the change and find the support you deserve.
