Support us for Carers Week

We will be championing unpaid carers in our community during Carers Week (June 5th-11th) and we’d love your support!

Carers Week is a national week providing an important opportunity to raise awareness of unpaid carers and ensuring that they are recognised for the vital work they do.

During the week we will be holding our Walk A Mile awareness event, a circular walk around Swindon Town Centre. It’s happening on Saturday June 10th starting at 11am (registrations from 10.30am) from The Swindon Hub, 36 The Parade, Swindon, SN1 1BA and finishing there.

You don’t need to book for the event, just turn up on the day. There is more information about Walk A Mile on our Facebook page here.

You can also support us by playing our raffle and tickets are available to buy now at £1 each. Prizes include hampers of goodies, beauty vouchers and leisure vouchers and have been donated by the following local businesses: Lalbagh Indian Cuisine, Kay’s Beauty Salon, Franclin’s Hair and Beauty, Kutting Chai, Swindon Wildcats Ice Hockey, Delta Tennis Centre and Barnes Coaches.

Walk A Mile is, once again, kindly sponsored by Pebley Beach Hyundai and Suzuki Swindon which will match fund donations up to £1,000.

The raffle is online here.

The vital contribution that unpaid carers make is highlighted in new figures from the 2021 Census. This shows that unpaid carers in Swindon save the local economy £592 million a year, up by 43% on the previous decade and the largest percentage increase in the South West of England, in a report by Carers UK and the Centre for Care at the University of Sheffield.

Data from the Census also shows that the number of hours that people spend caring for someone has increased. In Swindon more people are caring for 20 to 50 hours a week and over 50 hours a week.

We are here to support unpaid carers in Swindon by working to improve their wellbeing so that they can live a healthy, fulfilling life alongside their caring role.

We hope you will show your support by getting involved during Carers Week! If you require further information, please email communications@swindoncarers.org.uk
