Swindon Carers Centre is delighted to announce that its Patron and former Chief Executive, Susanna Jones, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List for her dedication to supporting unpaid carers. This prestigious recognition comes during Carers Week, which this year focuses on the inequalities that unpaid carers face, highlighting issues such as poverty, social isolation, and the impacts on mental and physical health, education, and career opportunities.
Susanna expressed her gratitude saying, “Carer organisations across the UK are working hard to ensure unpaid carers are truly recognised, valued, and supported. It’s a privilege to represent them and to highlight the essential contribution millions of unpaid carers make to our society and economy.”
“Awards like this are always reflective of a much wider effort than just one person and I would like to pay tribute to the whole Swindon Carers Centre team, past and present, for brilliant consistent and collective effort. Particular thanks to Hannah Crawley – SCC Chair for more than 7 years - for her ongoing exemplary and diligent leadership of the Board and to Ian Price, former Chair, current Patron and long-term trustee of Friends of Young Carers Swindon (FOYCS) - which SCC works with closely and has funded support for hundreds of Young Carers over many years.”
“Of course, a huge thank you to the incredible 18,300+ unpaid carers in Swindon who ease pressure on the NHS and Social Care to the value of £592million per year.”
“Finally, thank you to those who nominated me for this honour. The charity and health and social care sectors are facing huge challenges – but colleagues across the system continue to make a difference.”
